At the end of 2021, I sat down and wrote out some predictions for 2022 job search.
The exercise was for me, but I started thinking you could probably benefit from these, too. 😊
So without delay, here are my job search and careers predictions for 2022:
- You need to be networking. Everyone needs to be networking. Please, please, please don’t put this one off. It’s more important than ever.
- LinkedIn is where the bulk of networking happens now, so having a presence there is another must. Fortunately, that platform helps make networking a lot more effective (and passive) than ever before. (Learn more to help your LinkedIn strategy in my blog on LinkedIn to Get Hired Faster)
- Creating social media content (posts, LinkedIn articles, etc.) will help more job seekers get noticed.
- All job seeker collateral (resume, LinkedIn profile, etc.) needs to tell a story that engages the reader – those who don’t do that will be passed over for those who do.
- Using color in resumes will be even more widely accepted across a broader range of industries and job types. (More key resume strategies in my blog on Resume Core Concepts to Get You More Interviews)
- Targeting companies (rather than just any open job on a job board) will prove to be a much more effective strategy to get job seekers into roles and companies they really love.
- Companies are becoming more focused on hiring the right person for the role, not just a person who has the right skillset. Aligning yourself with company mission, vision, and values will be key.
- TikTok is becoming a bigger player in recruitment and hiring, and it will continue to grow in that area over the next year or two, at least.
- Video interviewing, especially for first-round screening and interviewing, will continue to play a major role, and leveraging the tech abilities that gives you (sharing your screen, personalizing your green screen background, etc.) will start to separate top content from ‘the rest’.
- Remote work will continue to grow, more companies will adopt remote-first strategies, and it will become more important for job seekers to highlight remote work in your resume. (For more, check out my blog on How to Find Remote Work (and position yourself for remote jobs))
Hope you found these helpful!
